A boy travels back in time to Edo period Japan and becomes involved in a bizarre murder that takes place in the Yoshiwara pleasure district . Can he solve the mystery and return to the present?
The protagonist is a 17-year-old boy named Kotaro who lives in modern-day Japan. One day, he is caught up in a supernatural event in Shibuya and loses consciousness. When he wakes up, he finds himself in a space reminiscent of a Japanese period drama.
Kotaro is informed by “God” that he is in the Yoshiwara pleasure district in Edo, the capital of 19th century Japan, and that upon his death, he has become only a soul and time-traveled to the Edo period. Not knowing why he ended up in this era or how to attain nirvana, Kotaro begins to wander around Yoshiwara in search of clues to solve the “mystery.”
Eventually, he comes across the murder of a courtesan and is tasked with taking on the role of a “detective” in order to solve the case, but he also encounters a number of bizarre murders…
